The start of anything is always somewhat easy. You’re pumped up, motivated and ready to go. Right? But then, day two, day three and at some point you fall off the wagon starting over at day 1 striving for consistency, but struggling. It’s the ongoing decision to be consistent that is such a struggle.
Day in and day out the micro choices we make can add to our live or take from it.
But what if the one thing that was intended to add to your life— is also the very thing that takes from your life because it’s become an idol?
We all serve something.
We all submit to something.
If you ever want to know what or who someone serves listen to what they talk about, what media they listen to, and how they occupy their time.
Most common idols that come to mind are comfort, one’s own self, sex, a significant other, etc.. but the thing about idols is that you’re given a morsel of satisfaction when that person gives you just a little bit of their time, or that video game gives you a little glimpse of relaxation, but those little crumbs of satisfaction cause us to act like it’s a 5 course meal. It leaves you craving more.
You shape your own appetite by feeding what you crave.
It’s our job to recognize the idols in our own life and take action when they start to interfere with our ability to be satisfied with things that are greater than ourselves.
