The Little Things

I had a conversation with a friend recently and we were talking about the grand gestures God has shown to prove His great love for us over and over again which are beautiful, powerful testimonies. But then, we discussed the smaller miracles that might get perceived as mere coincidence because it was such a small thing and God has better things to do than care about the little things.

But we forget.

God made Himself into the smallest most vulnerable thing that formed him into a little baby.

To say God has better things to do than to care about the little things is just simply not in alignment with God’s character.

But in the same way that God cares about the small miracles, He also cares about our small acts of obedience.

Turning our head and mind away from temptation when on the beach with friends.

Or maybe being honest when you made a mistake at work that someone else got reprimanded for.

Or deciding to go for a walk rather than explore the websites that poison your mind.

The list goes on.

But in those moments, we get the opportunity to choose.

Obedience or rebellion.

Death to self or self indulgence.

We won’t be perfect.

But those small acts of obedience will create a conviction of submission that will in turn draw us nearer to Christ to look more like Him and less like our old selves.

Don’t let your prayer life be so consumed with prayers requesting great acts of love from God that you get to receive, that you forget to lift yourself up in prayer asking for God’s supernatural strength to overcome the small temptations, so He can entrust you with greater responsibility to grow His kingdom.
